Westlaw Alerts

Westlaw offers the following alerts:

  1. WestClip: automatically re-runs a search in any Westlaw content and will alert you to any updates.
  2. KeyCite Alert: monitors the KeyCite status of specific cases, statutes, and regulations and automatically alerts you to any changes.

You can manage any Westlaw Alerts through the Notifications menu.


 

Setting Up a WestClip Alert 

  1. Run a search in any Westlaw content. 
  2. From your search results, click on the Alerts icon to create a WestClip Alert.
  3. A template will open, first name your alert.
  4. Add any addition content to your search and make any changes to your search terms.
  5. Select the delivery method and frequency of the notifications, then click Save alert.

Setting Up a KeyCite Alert

  1. From within the legal authority you want to monitor, click on the Alert icon.
  2. Name the KeyCite Alert.
  3. In the Select Content section, choose what changes to the KeyCite status of the authority that you want to be notified of. For example, you can limit your Alert to type of treatment, content types, or jurisdiction.
  4. Choose the delivery method and schedule.
  5. Click Save alert.

Lexis Alerts

Lexis offers the following Alerts:

  1. Lexis Alert: allows you to receive notifications on searches within Lexis content.
  2. Shepard's Alert: will notify you of changes to the status of a legal authorities Shepard's status.

You can view and manage your Alerts by clicking on the Alert icon at the top of the Lexis landing page. 

Setting up a Lexis Alert

  1. Run a search within any Lexis content.
  2. Apply filters to your search to locate the most relevant results.
  3. From your results, click the bell icon at the top of the page.  
  4. Select the delivery format and frequency of the Alert.
  5. Click Create Alert.

Setting up a Shepard's Report on Lexis

  1. When viewing the legal authority for which you want to set up a Shepard's Alert, click Shepardize Document.
  2. From within the Shepard's Report, click on the bell icon to set up an Alert.
  3. Customize the Alert to receive notifications of positive or negative changes only, or a change in the Citing Reference Signal.
  4. Select the delivery format and frequency of the Shepard's Alert.
  5. Click Create Alert.
