Rest and Relaxation at the BC Law Library

This guide will help students, faculty, and staff locate resources for rest and relaxation in the BC Law Library.

Contemplation & Meditation Room and weekly sessions

The Law Library has a dedicated contemplation and meditation room, Law Library Room 427.  Regular meditation is known to ease stress levels, improve cognition, and encourage compassion. If you are intrigued with the idea of developing a meditation practice and becoming more mindful, please consider participating in the Law School’s meditation sessions. During the semester, there are regularly scheduled group meditation sessions.

Spring 2018 semester:  Mediation sit on Monday, Feb. 5 at 12:30; then regular meditation sits on Wednesday from 12:30 - 1:00.  Following the 2018 Spring Break, meditation sits will be planned for both Monday and  Wednesday at 12:30 p.m. During the mediation sits, we read a poem or some other contemplative reading, do 5 minutes of body scan and breath work, and then meditate for 15 minutes. All are welcome whether you are new to meditation or you are an experienced meditator.

The Contemplation & Meditation Room (Room 427) is open during Law Library hours for individual meditation and silent contemplation sessions. There are floor pillows and comfortable chairs in the room. Please maintain a respectful silence in the room; it is a cell phone-free and study-free zone.
