Table 1 of The Bluebook lists the preferred sources for federal materials and for all states. This quickly allows one to see which case reporter, statutory code, etc. is the one to which citation should be made. 

Chicago would defer to The Bluebook for a case, statutory, or regulatory citation (Rule 14.281).
